Answered a question today on Singapore’s role in sustainable development. This was in a dialogue at the FutureChina Global Forum organised by 通商中国 Business China.
I joked that Singapore is such a small country that even if we all stopped breathing it would make little difference to climate change. More seriously, we have few options for renewable energy. There is no space for nuclear power, and other sources are either not feasible (wind, hydro) or limited in scale (solar), so we have to rely heavily on fossil fuels.
But we will be a responsible member of the global community, and help to build consensus on an international agreement which is fair and implementable for all countries.
Also each of us can make changes to our lifestyles, to save energy. Every little bit counts. - LHL
